I am an avid coffee drinker. I love the environment that reeks of determination and (probably one too many) espresso shots. After a semester of trying just about any place I can find, I have come up with the ranking for best coffee. I judge based on taste (duh!), environment, and overall crowdedness of the cafe.
5.) Philz Coffee- this is a classic bay area brew, but I think that it is overhyped and there is never a place to sit. However, their vegan donuts landed them on this list.
4.) Romeos- with a Hershey's kiss given with each drink, this quaint coffee shop holds a special place in my heart. The workers are all extremely nice and they also have every non-dairy milk option available. Their drinks taste exactly like Philz (a little better if you ask me), but without the massive crowds of people.
3.) Baker and Commons- this coffee shop is best for those who want a little pastry to go with their giant mug of coffee. There is almost always an open table and the lattes are the perfect size for a sleep-deprived student.
2.) Algorithm Coffee- by far the best place to get espresso drinks. Compared to many of the other cafes in Berkeley, this one has a large layout and is filled with businessmen and women opposed to a plethora of students. Just take my word for this one.
1.) HOME Cafe- pure happiness in a place. I dare you to order any drink from this shop and not be amazed by its individuality. The winner in aesthetic, taste, and amount of people. HOME is a must for any coffee addict who is up for an adventure. I recommend their lavender latte and the ICONIC birthday cake latte. Browsing their Instagram page will have you longing for a creative-cup-of-joe.
